WE'RE WONDERING Where do you stand on Michelle Wie? The teen phenom has yet to make it to the weekend in a men's event. She just failed to make the Sony Open cut for the fourth time, this time miserably. So what's to be done with her? (PLAYING WITH THE BIG DOGS) How should we treat her? How should the media treat her? Any thoughts? rod@golfhelp.com

At age 15, the then high school sophomore finished two strokes behind winner Rosales in the season-opening SBS Open. She's talented, she's smart, she's nice. Her golf swing is wondrous to behold. She hits it faaaaarr. She quickly became the darling of the media. She decided she'd prefer to play men's golf over women's in the long run. So why not start as soon as possible, test the waters so to speak? Some thought she should make a success path through LPGA schedule before she took on the PGA, but most pundits celebrated her ambition and praised her courage and calm under pressure. Then she failed this month in her fourth consecutive attempt to qualify for the PGA Sony Open, and her supporters have begun to defect, as if she should be made to pay for letting them down, making them look bad. As the saying goes, everyone loves a winner, but . . . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SPONSOR - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - GOLF ILLUSTRATED/SYMPLE SWING SPECIAL 1/2 PRICE SALE

Play the ball forward in your stance and open the clubface a bit. Strike the sand as close as possible to the ball without hitting it ( the hard part). Take a thin divot and follow through. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - TIGER'S BOOK PRAISED - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - We haven't read it yet, but what we've read so far about Tiger Woods: How I Play Golf is good, so we mention it here for those who may want to beat us to the punch. Shows "passion" and "love for the game," says one reviewer who is also a golfer. The tone is conversational. Woods' love of the game shines through. He describes in detail his game from short irons on up, using high-speed camera stills to illustrate the moves. There's a chapter on course management and words about many of the shots heard round the world that helped make him a champion so many times. www.amazon.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - NOTEWORTHY (ADJUSTABLE PUTTER) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - One putter fits all could almost be said about Puku putters. Adjustable from 36 to 50 inches, they are designed with versatility in mind, allowing a golfer to experiment with different lengths, from the more conventional to the belly type. Three different models all feature curved hosels to allow unimpeded view of top of putter, center-balanced heel to toe weighting, and mirror-polished soles. Not surprisingly, Tiger Woods got top spot with earnings just short of $100 million, up $12 million from what he nailed in 2005. Phil Mickelson is No. 2 on the list for the third consecutive year, with golf-related income of just over $44 million. These are big bucks, considering Curtis Strange was the first player ever to earn $1 million in 1988. And last year about 50 caddies had incomes of six figures. Yes, it was a very good year. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SPONSOR - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SYMPLE PUTTING Have You Seen The AMAZING NEW PUTTING METHOD that turns EVERYTHING UNDER 10 FEET INTO GIMMES? To emphasize just how serious they were, Greg Marshall and Adrienne Foley actually wore their wedding duds for the high stakes game. Doing so turned out to hinder Adrienne more so than it did Greg, but although she lost, she gave it a good go, threatening on the 17th with a hole-in-one. Greg one by three strokes. She took his name. . . . Guess whose idea the whole thing was?? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - About FedEx Cup points vs. money-winner ranking:
"Good question. I hope this will make writers stop writing about the "leading money winner." They have always made too much of it. Remember when Jim Colbert won more than Hale Irwin? Colbert played several more tournaments. When Singh won more than Woods? Sing played about 60% more tournaments. Now, not that it is very likely to happen, but it could, any player who makes the playoff could win and be the leading money winner. The term should be abolished." George Singleton (Fort Worth, Texas)
". . . will probably pay no attention. I'll watch a number of tour events on weekends and try to learn from what I see. Who wins the cup or player of the year will be lost on me. Of course, I also ignore the Heisman winner, the pro sports MVP's and all of that. For me, it's the beauty of the game." MK
". . . interest will grow as the season and qualifying tournaments take place, and top point getters are promoted. Of course, it will help if the PGA pros talk positively about it, too. I think the majority of pros must feel it is a great event for 2007. I will keep an eye on the results as we go through the season." Dave
About what's in your bag:
"Before: driver, 3-wood, 5-wood, 4, 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9, PW, SW, putter. After: driver, 3, 4, 5, 6 Adams hybrids, 7, 8, 9, PW, GW, SW, LW, putter, conventional 4 iron from old set. I kept a 4 iron from my old set just to hit low shots from the woods. The LW and GW are new for me and I haven't worked out the yardages yet. I wonder sometimes whether I need to put a wood back in the bag that I might be able to hit farther than the 3 hybrid, but my strategy after I got the new set was to just hit the 3-hybrid down the middle of the fairway and not worry about the distance. I never hit a par 5 in two anyway. My index is 12.2, and I shot 5-over a couple times this year, so I think removing the woods has let me hit more consistent and more accurate shots from the fairway with the hybrids. I'm 62 and have been playing about five years." Finally a driver that's easy to hit. You don't have to tee off with your 3 wood any more and lose distance. Best of all you can try it for only $20.
Recent research has proven that higher launch angles are needed for maximum driver distance. You can get the higher launch angle by teeing the ball up higher and trying to hit the ball with an ascending blow. That requires good timing and lots of practice. We suggest trying our EZ2Hit Magnum 14 degree driver. http://www.accuswing.com/magnum.html
Accuswing now offers our Magnum driver with a 14 degree loft (We also have it available with 12, degree or 14 degree lofts.)
Now you can try all this higher lofted Driver for only $20. Here's how it works. Contact us by at sales@accuswing.com or at 203-792-2812 and we'll decide the best shaft flex and length for the driver to send you. Then we bill your credit card $20 for shipping and we send the driver to try for up to 15 days. (That $20 will be credited towards your driver purchase.) This offer is only open at this time to golfers in the U.S. If you decide not to keep the driver just send it back.
EXPERT CLUB FITTING If you are interested in expert club fitting just go visit our web site and fill out our custom fitting form. The club fitting process is more than picking a model or style of club and the material it is made out of, but is also getting the details of length, loft and shaft flex correctly sorted out, along with head face height and face width, so square, firm contact with the ball can be made without having to strain against your equipment. http://www.accuswing.com/ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SHORT GAME - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - = Charley Hoffman birdied 17 and eagled 18 to end regulation, then birdied the first sudden death hole to beat John Rollins Sunday at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.
