YOUR THOUGHTS?
More and more European Tour (sometimes called World Tour)
players are choosing to play on American soil. (See PGA:
ANOTHER WORLD TOUR? below.)  Can't blame 'em.  The money's
better, the prestige higher.  Does this situation beg the
question of whether or not there might someday be only one
real World Tour?  Any thoughts?

Build a better prize package and an enviable reputation, and
they will come.  And coming they are, players from all over
the globe, to earn chunks of the U.S. PGA's generous
tournament purses and bask in the notoriety that comes with
success on the PGA Tour.  Among the top nine finishers at the
Heritage Classic two weeks ago, six were from places other
than the United States.  And this year six of the first 16 PGA
events have been won by international players.  Players from
abroad also accounted for 45 of the 93 spots in the 2005
Masters.  Brit Ian Poulter is one of the top world players who
have opted to take their chances in the New World.  As such he
will commit to playing in 20 tournaments here.  "I'm going to
play a mixture of PGA Tour and European Tour.  I'll play the
majors this year, the WGCs, and then I'll go back home and do
a stint there," he said recently.  Apparently, he will not be
the only European to do so.

Can't say this often enough: visualize your shots.  Once
you've picked your line and done your set up, put everything
out of mind but the picture of your ball flying to the
intended target.  The picture in your mind will, in fact, lend
eyes to the golf ball.  Is it magic?  No, just good practice.
Use it for every shot.

It's time once again to post our lightning precautionary
alert.  Sadly, we're reminded by a Malaysian lightning strike
tragedy that killed two golfers and injured two of their
friends on the Royal Johor Country Club course in Johor Baru
last week.  The four golfers and their caddies were in a
shelter waiting for the rain to stop when the lightning
struck.  We all too often read stories like this, and cannot
over-emphasize the need for fear and precaution in the
presence of an electrical storm on a golf course.  Here's what
to do if you find yourself in that situation:

Mike Rothermund's tee shot on the 12th hole at Robber's Row
Golf Course in Hilton Head, S.C. took a short bounce then
landed on the back of a basking alligator - and stayed there.
Rothermund, 74, was able, prudently, to take a drop without
penalty, and move on.  An expert on the subject of alligators
and golf balls said that the bony structure of the gator's
back prevented him from feeling the ball.  A bowling ball, he
added, would have made a different story.

   LICKLITER TO HELP WOUNDED VETS

Frank Lickliter announced at the Wachovia Championship that he
will devote his play this year to raising awareness for the
Wounded Warrior Project.  The WWP assists severely wounded
veterans to return to a normal life.  Lickliter, one of the
Tour's staunchest patriots, will host Wounded Warriors at
designated PGA events during the season, and has pledged to
the project $5,000 or five percent of his earnings at each of
the tournaments.

About current rules for the election of players to the World
Golf Hall of Fame:

"Simple enough.  No other major sport elects during a player's
active career.  We all know that certain players in football
or baseball are future hall of famers, but not until their
playing days are past by a set period of time.  Golf needs to
do the same.  No eligibility until the player has left the
active tour for say, a minimum of three years."  MK
